What Colours Go With Pink Clothes | Pink Colour Combinations

what colours to wear with pink downloadable colour guide

Pink is one of those colours I hear clients say they can’t wear because they either look awful in it or don’t know what coloured clothes to wear with pink. This week, I want to teach you what colours go with pink clothes. I’ll also show you some easy colour combinations and which pink is best for your colour season.

What Pink Suits Your Colour Season?

If you’ve had a colour analysis, you’ll know what your best colours are and you may know the name of your season. There are great pinks for every skin tone and complexion and since it’s such a popular colour in not just clothing, but makeup, I want to break down which pink will suit you best. If you don’t know what your colour season is, you could use these colours below to narrow down what colour palette you fall into.

Cool Pinks VS Warm Pinks

The biggest difference you’ll see between warm and cool pinks is that warm pinks look more coral whereas cool pinks have a purple appearance. If you are a spring or autumn, you have a warm undertone and your browns look more coral, watermelon and strawberry like. If you are a summer or winter, your pinks look like a purple or vibrant bluish pink which will compliment your cool undertone.

Pink Colour Combinations - Using Neutral Colours With Pink

It’s useful to know that while neutrals go with everything, some neutrals can have warm or cool undertones and will look better matched with colours of the same undertone. For example, cream is a warm colour, it looks great with warm pinks, where as white is cool and looks fantastic with cooler pinks. Neutrals are white, cream, grey, brown, denim, black and navy. Any of these colours can be worn with pink.

What Colours Don’t Go With Pink?

If you’ve tried mixing pink with another colour and it hasn’t worked, it could be because of two reasons:

  • You’ve mixed a warm pink with a cool colour OR a cool pink with a warm colour. Pinks look best when paired with colours that share the same undertone.

  • You’ve mixed a bright colour with a muted pink OR a bright pink with a muted colour. Think of how strange a soft dusty pink would look with bright blue. If the pink was brighter, say a hot pink, it would work. You need to make sure the intensity of the pink matches the intensity of the colour.

Pink Colour Combinations - Green

Greens will compliment pink, whether you opt for light or dark pinks, or light or dark greens. You can really wear a wide variety of greens and you will see below that I’ve added bright warm green and pink to the other neutral combinations to show you ways you can incorporate more than two colours in your outfit. Remember, if your green is warm pair it with a warm pink, if it’s a cool green like an emerald, pair it with a cool pink of the same intensity.

Pink Colour Combinations - Red

I think red is such a fun colour to pair with pink. You’re effectively wearing a tonal outfit when you pair these colours together. It’s not the most common way I see pink being worn but red just adds a pop to pink and it’s a fun and surprising way to use colour. I’ve used a true red, meaning it’s not warm or cool, it’s somewhere in the middle. This red will work well with intense pinks and if you want to wear it with a more muted pink, add black, white or denim to the mix.

Pink Colour Combinations - Sky Blue

Sky blue looks so good with pink because they’re softer versions of primary colours. Try sky blue with soft and vibrant pinks and the neutral combinations I’ve set out below. Consider pink as a great accessories colour, and one to wear with jeans, the colour of denim blue is very similar to sky blue.

Pink Colour Combinations - Pink

A tonal look, or what we call monochromatic colour pairing is to wear different shades of pink together. Keep the undertones the same and remember, like looks best with like. So if you wear soft, muted pinks, pick more muted pinks in different shades to wear together. If you wear bold and bright pinks, pick different shades of vibrant pinks to wear together.

Pink Colour Combinations - Lavender

You’ll see a lot of lavender and lilac this season, so if you’re a summer or winter, try pairing lavender with a cool pink and you’ll see what a beautiful combination it is. Add those neutrals in and you have plenty to work with for different outfits.

Pink Colour Combinations - Bright Purple

This is an unexpected colour to pair with pink but I see it in summer all the time! Bright purple with pink can be striking and rich when done right. Ensure you’ve got an intense pink (rich & vibrant) to pair with it. To lift it even further, if you’re a warmer season (Spring or Autumn) try a very orange pink, the colours will play off each other nicely.

Pink Colour Combinations - Teal

Teal is a huge component of the autumn colour season palette and many autumns wear it with peachy pinks, creams and oranges already so if you’re an autumn this colour pairing comes as no surprise to you. If you’re not an autumn, try the neutral pairings for this colour and adjust your pinks to your undertone (cool pinks will look better on you if you have a cool undertone, warm is better for warm undertones).

Pink Colour Combinations - Mint Green

Mint green and pink is a fresh combination, think of summer prints that have florals in them, they often have mint green and pink in them. Try this pairing back with neutrals and denim, it’s a lovely combination.

Pink Colour Combinations - Maroon

Maroon is a warmer red, but you could easily switch this with burgundy and a cool pink. This colour pairing is a calming combination for pink and great for winter layering.

Pink Colour Combinations - Tangerine

This bright light orange is a super fun combination for warmer months. If you’re a light spring or summer, try this! Use the combinations below, especially those with denim or navy added, the contrast will make the orange pop.

Pink Colour Combinations - Yellow

Since yellow is also big this season I thought I’d add it in, because there really isn’t a lot you can’t wear pink with! Try this yellow for spring and summer to liven up your pink outfits and consider using pink in your accessories like belts and bags to play nicely with your yellow pieces.

Pink Colour Combinations - Eggplant

This deep purple is great for pairing with deep pink in autumn and winter and for making pink work of an evening. Eggplant is a great colour for dark colour seasons so deep autumn and deep winters, so try wearing this with other dark pinks and if you want to make it stand out, add some lighter pinks, like pastel pink or hot pink.
