What To Wear With Orange

Pintrest Header - Orange colour combinations

Orange is one of those tough colours to play with, but with a few ideas I’m sure you can find colour combinations for orange that you love to help you pair your orange clothing, shoes or handbags with other items in your wardrobe.

Come spring and summer, there’s always orange around in stores and if you’re thinking adding a little orange into your wardrobe, or you already have but are stuck on what to wear it with - stick around.

Firstly, Orange is the warmest colour on the colour wheel, so if you’ve done a Colour Analysis with me and learned you have a cool undertone, you might be thinking you can’t wear it. That’s not true at all, you can still wear it in accessories, in bottoms and in smaller prints. The main thing you want to avoid if you’re a cool-undertoned person and you want to wear orange is that you will look your most radiant self wearing it away from your face.

Orange Colour Combinations

As a Colour Theory nerd, I am excited to tell you there are SO MANY ways you can pair orange, but let’s start with neutral colours first, then we’ll move onto some more advanced matching.

  1. Matching with neutrals:

  • Black and white work well with orange, you could pair a black and white suit with a pair of orange shoes, or a white and orange dress with a pair of black shoes.

  • Add in any other neutral like beige, grey or taupe and you’ve got a winning combination.

2. Pairing Orange With Blue, Navy, Purple & Teal

Orange and blues always work well together, you can pair dark navy, royal blue, light blue, purples and teals with orange for a stunning combination. If it feels too strong, mix in a neutral colour like black, grey, white or taupe.

3. Pairing Orange With Pink, Yellow, Red and Yellow-Green

These combinations can be very calming, when worn in muted shades. Imagine a rust orange with khaki green, or a deep red and deep orange - Gorgeous! Remember, you don’t always have the pair the brightest, most vibrant version of colours together, you can play with pale, deep, and muted shades too.
